Auto-Collect for PG&E authorizations

UtilityAPI is developing an opt-in auto-collect feature for PG&E authorizations impacted by MFA.

With the launch of PG&E’s new account and multi-factor authentication (MFA) requirements users now only have 24 hours upon successful authorization to complete on-demand collections.

Given this constraint and with a focus on improving data collection success, we are developing a new auto-collect feature for PG&E authorizations with 3 electric meters or less.

This article explains how auto-collect works, how to opt in, its application, and other relevant information.

🔄 What is Auto-Collect?

Auto-collect is a new feature being developed that allows UtilityAPI users to automatically collect data from PG&E accounts with three electric meters or less upon successful authorization.

With this feature enabled, UtilityAPI will automatically collect PG&E bill, interval, and accounting data from your customers' accounts.

This feature will be 100% opt-in and can be turned off at any time.

✅ Opting in to auto-collect

If you want to enable this feature, please fill out the opt-in request form here.

📌 Does Auto-Collect Apply to Other Utilities?

Not at this time.

Auto-collect is initially being developed just for PG&E due to their 24-hour MFA implementation. We are actively evaluating other utilities for similar support, and will provide updates as additional adapters and MFA-handling capabilities are added.

🧪 Is Auto-Collect Available via API?

Yes, auto-collect behavior will be triggered when new PG&E authorizations are created via the API, just as it is when they are created via the dashboard. No additional parameters are required to initiate it.

Version 1.0 of the auto-collect feature will not allow users to actively turn the feature off and on in the dashboard or via API.
