How is my account charged with UtilityAPI?

An explanation of how your account is charged for on-demand and scheduled collections.

On-demand collections

For on-demand (Initial Collections & Refreshes) of Bill and Interval data, your cost per meter depends on how many months of data you collect, as shown below:Screenshot 2025-04-07 at 09.39.56

Scheduled collections

When you enroll a meter in our Ongoing Monitoring service regardless of your pricing plan and structure, your account will be charged a fee each month based on the frequency of (daily, weekly, monthly) selected and your account's payment plan.

Meters enrolled in Ongoing Monitoring will incur a monthly subscription fee as long as they meet the following criteria:

  • The Ongoing Monitoring subscription remains active;
  • The authorization associated with the meter is not revoked or expired;
  • The utility has not stopped or modified the meter's information;
  • UtilityAPI has been able to collect data at least once in the last 6 months.

Note: Archiving a meter does not stop scheduled collections or unenroll a meter from Ongoing Monitoring

No fee

There are a variety of core features that we do not charge your account for. Some of these activities include:

  • Requesting access and receving customer approval to a customer's utility account and meters platform using our authorization form.
  • Making API calls.

The details outlined above are general information and guidance about pricing models and fee structures applicable to users enrolled in Duration Based Pricing, and may not apply to custom contracts.

What is considered a successful On-demand collection?

On-demand collection success is defined as collecting the following data fields from each meter for the collection data duration.

Bill data:

  • Bill start date
  • Bill end date
  • Total volume
  • Total unit (kWh/therms)
  • Total cost
  • Service tariff

Interval data:

  • Interval start date and time
  • Interval end date and time
  • Interval value total

If we detect gaps in the available data for bill PDFs or interval data for a single month, we’ll credit your account for that month after 7 days.

Example:

If you request 12 months of data and one of the months does not meet one of our successful collection criteria — for example, the 12th month has less than 90% of interval data or is missing a bill PDF for that month — we will automatically credit your account a per unit rate of $1.50 within 7 days.

What makes my Automated Monitoring subscription successful?

Ongoing Monitoring is considered successful when we monitor your enrolled meter for the availability of new data based on that meter's subscription frequency. If new data is available, Ongoing Monitoring does not guarantee the successful collection of all available data.

We may monitor a meter enrolled in Ongoing Monitoring and find no new data available. We still consider this a successful monitoring. If new data becomes available at the next scheduled monitoring date, we will attempt to collect the data, but do not guarantee a successful collection.
