What is the UtilityAPI + OpenSolar integration? 

The integration allows mutual platform users to seamlessly pull interval data from UtilityAPI into their projects, enabling the creation of precise, customized solar + storage systems based on historical electricity usage, while designing and selling with OpenSolar’s free, easy-to-use platform.

How do I connect my UtilityAPI account to my Open Solar account?

Connecting your UtilityAPI and OpenSolar accounts is simple and takes only a few minutes. To do so, follow these steps:

Step 1: Create or retrieve your UtilityAPI API token.

  • Go to your UtilityAPI API settings  to create or retrieve an API token

  • You can either:

    • Create a new API token (recommended)

    • Or copy an existing token if you’ve already generated one

Tip: Create a new token specifically for the OpenSolar integration at the admin user level.

This ensures:

  • You can manage or disable the integration later without affecting other workflows

  • The token will have access to all customer data as needed

Step 2: Connect your UtilityAPI account to OpenSolar

  1. Create or log into your OpenSolar account: Visit OpenSolar.com and sign up for a free account or log in if you already have one.
  2. In your OpenSolar account, navigate to the Control (on the top navigation bar of your OpenSolar Dashboard), then click on Settings in the left-hand menu.
  3. Under Settings, click Integrations & API Keys and paste the API token from UtilityAPI into the corresponding "UtilityAPI API Key"  field under Others. 
  4. Click Save on the bottom right of the screen.
