Types of emails from UtilityAPI and how to update your preferences

UtilityAPI sends two types of emails: Marketing Communications and Platform Notifications. Each serves a specific purpose and can be managed separately, giving you control over which emails you want to receive.

📩 Marketing Communications

Purpose:

These emails keep you informed about new features, utility outages, company updates, and UtilityAPI's participation in industry events.

Examples include:

  • Product updates, bug fixes, and new user onboarding upon registration

  • UtilityAPI maintenance or outages, utility site  maintenance, and notifications about utility or platform interruptions
  • Newsletters, company announcements, and blog updates

How you are enrolled:

Your email is enrolled in Marketing Communication emails when you create a UtilityAPI account, register for one of our Green Button OAuth utility connections, give us your contact information at an event, or contact our team for more product information.

How to unsubscribe and manage preferences:

If you no longer want to receive marketing emails, click “Unsubscribe” or “Manage preferences” at the bottom of any marketing email. 

When you click "Manage preferences", you can choose which types of marketing communications you would like to receive, including: 

  • Customer Support Communications: Emails from our support team in relation to support tickets.

  • One-to-One: Emails from UtilityAPI team members you have communicated with directly.

  • UtilityAPI Information: Product updates, company announcements, bug fixes, and related updates.

  • Onboarding Emails: A series of emails that guide new users through setting up and using their UtilityAPI account. They include helpful tips, product overviews, and links to resources that make it easier to start collecting and managing utility data.

Note: Unsubscribing at the bottom of marketing emails only applies to marketing emails. You will still receive important platform communications related to your UtilityAPI account.

🔔 Platform Notifications 

Purpose:

These emails are connected to your UtilityAPI account and keep you informed about what’s happening with your account activity.

How you are enrolled:

You are automatically enrolled in Platform Notifications when you register for a UtilityAPI account. These emails are designed to support your ongoing use of the platform and ensure you are notified about actions related to accessing customer utility data.

Platform Notifcations examples include:

  • Registration confirmation,
  • Authorization status updates

  • Data collection progress on selected meters

How to manage preferences:
You can update your Platform Notification preferences in your UtilityAPI Dashboard settings by completing the following steps.

  1. Log in to your UtilityAPI Dashboard.

  2. Go to Account Settings.

  3. Scroll down and select Notifications Settings.

  4. Choose which types of platform emails you want to receive and hit save.

Note: You can still access and use your UtilityAPI Dashboard even if you unsubscribe from these notification emails. These settings apply only to dashboard email alerts from and do not impact your account access or data.
