Re-registering for a PG&E Online Account

To ensure that utility account holders can continue to share data via UtilityAPI, they may need to re-register for an online account.

What’s changing with PG&E’s website?

On June 9th, 2025, PG&E launched a new online account system. As part of this update, utility account holders (i.e. your customers) may be required to re-register for an online PG&E account on pge.com. This step is necessary to maintain seamless third-party access to utility data through UtilityAPI.

Note: These changes affect all PG&E authorizations and data collections made using our web portal adapter data access method. Green Button Proxy and Green Button Hosting authorizations and data collection remain unaffected.  Learn more about UtilityAPI’s data access methods.

What utility account holders may be affected?

Any PG&E utility account holder who hasn’t re-registered since the launch of the new system may be affected — even if their authorization form linking their PG&E account to UtilityAPI was completed before June 9, 2025.

How do I know if a utility account hold must be re-registered?

If a utility account holder attempts to authorize data sharing via UtilityAPI without having successfully re-registered, our system will detect the issue.

In these cases, you'll see an error message in both the UtilityAPI dashboard and API indicating that registration is incomplete.

How can utility account holders re-register?

  3. Confirm that they are the account holder
  4. Input their phone number
