WattCarbon Integration FAQ
What is the UtilityAPI + WattCarbon integration?
The UtilityAPI and WattCarbon integration transfers your UtilityAPI utility data into WattCarbon’s Aristotle AI platform, enhancing it with real-time performance dashboards, automated M&V, precise carbon accounting, and site-level visibility. This enables efficient tracking of energy consumption, waste reduction, and CO₂ savings across your portfolio.

How do I connect my UtilityAPI account to my WattCarbon account?
Connecting your UtilityAPI and WattCarbon accounts is simple and takes only a few minutes. To do so, follow these steps:
Note: You need both a UtilityAPI account and an WattCarbon account to use the integration.
Step 1: Create or retrieve your UtilityAPI API token.
-
Go to your UtilityAPI API settings to create or retrieve an API token
-
You can either:
-
Create a new API token (recommended)
-
Or copy an existing token if you’ve already generated one
-
Tip: Create a new token specifically for the WattCarbon integration at the admin user level.
This ensures:
-
You can manage or disable the integration later without affecting other workflows
-
The token will have access to all customer data as needed

Step 2: Connect your UtilityAPI account to WattCarbon
Once you have your UtilityAPI API token, log in to your WattCarbon account and follow these steps:
-
Log in to WattCarbon: If you're not already logged in, go to the Aristotle Dashboard and sign in.
-
Connect API Token: From the right navigation menu, click on Asset Management and then select "Connect your data now" to begin the setup.
-
Select Integration: Select UtilityAPI from the list of Partner Integrations.
-
Paste Your API Token: Copy the UtilityAPI API token (from Step 1) and paste it into the provided field. Click Save to complete the connection.
-
Continue Setup: If you haven't set up your dashboard yet, proceed with the remaining steps in Asset Management (Steps 2 and 3).
How do I use the WattCarbon integration once my UtilityAPI account is connected?
Once your UtilityAPI account is connected to WattCarbon, you can start registering energy assets and tracking their performance. Here’s how to get started:
Part 2: Creating and Registering an Energy Asset
-
Navigate to Asset Management: From the dashboard, go to the "Asset Management" or "Assets" section. Click on the "Register a new asset" in the top right corner
-
Select Registration Type: In the asset registration wizard, you’ll be asked to choose a registration type. You can select Tracking asset to monitor actual energy consumption and production data from your meters. If you’re calculating energy and carbon savings based on a specific methodology, choose M&V and WEATS Registry.
-
Choose a Methodology: After selecting the registration type, choose the methodology that best suits your asset. Available options include:
-
Demand Response: For assets in utility demand response programs.
-
Electrification: For assets replacing fossil fuel systems with electric alternatives.
-
Energy Efficiency: For assets focused on reducing overall energy consumption.
-
Solar: For solar power generation assets.
-
Storage: For battery or thermal storage systems.
-
Vehicle Charging: For EV charging infrastructure.
-
-
Select Meters: Select the meters that will be associated with your asset. Click the "Select meters" button to view and choose from the available meters. If you don’t have specific meters to link yet, you can proceed without selecting them.
-
Complete Asset Registration: Fill in the required information for your asset. After filling out the required fields, review the information for accuracy and submit the form to officially register your asset.
-
Manage Your Assets: Once registered, your asset will appear in the Asset Groups section. You can organize assets into different groups based on categories like property-based, project-based, or technology-based. Each asset group will display creation and last updated dates for easy tracking.
Can I get other types of data besides Interval data with this integration?
No, this integration only uses interval data to ensure the most accurate modeling for your projects.
What if there are multiple meters under one address?
Users have the ability to select which meters they want to import data for, including multiple meters under one address.
Why can't I see my data request on my WattCarbon dashboard?
If your UtilityAPI data isn’t appearing in your project, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
-
No data has been collected for the selected meter
Click the “Get Data” button next to the meter to start the data collection.
Make sure the meter has at least two months of interval data for it to populate in Aurora.
Go to your API Dashboard to activate the meter. -
Customer authorization is still pending
If the homeowner hasn’t completed the authorization, data collection can’t begin.
Check authorization status here. -
The utility or meter doesn’t support interval data
Not all utilities or meters provide interval data.
