Southern California Edison (SCE)’s Multifactor Authentication (MFA)

What's changed with SCE's website?

In October 2025, Southern California Edison (SCE) turned on an opt-in multi-factor authentication (MFA) verification requirement for online customer accounts.

If your utility customer has opted in to SCE's MFA requirements, they will be asked to complete a verification each time they log in to the website, which will impact our ability to collect data on your behalf.

What can you do to make sure your collections are going through?

You can encourage your customer to opt out of SCE's MFA requirements. Your customer can do this in the "Settings" section of their online account at SCE.com.

It is important to communicate to your customers that once they have opted out of SCE's MFA, they will be prompted to opt in again the next time they visit www.sce.com. We recommend you encourage them to select "Never Ask Again."

What is UtilityAPI doing to fix this?

We have developed a solution that encourages your customers' who have MFA enabled in their accounts to "Opt out" of MFA on SCE's website within the data authorization process. During the authorization process, these customers will receive the following pop-up message. SCE_optout

If your customer clicks the "Visit SCE to opt out" button, they will be redirected to SCE's opt-out webpage.

If your customer clicks the Continue to receipt button, they will not be redirected, and they will be required to complete MFA every time you get data.
